Dear Committee Member,

  The second liaison meeting of the National Water-Quality Assessment (NAWQA) 
study was scheduled for Thursday, October 6.  However, there is a major 
conflict that day with the NJDEPE "Mercury in the Environment" conference.  
Rather than knowingly lose many attendees on Thursday, we have decided to 
change the NAWQA meeting to Wednesday, October 5.  We'll still hold the 
meeting at the EPA facility in Edison.  We hope that does not present any 
conflicts for you.
  The goals of this second meeting are to better define the availability of 
data in the study area, discuss data-base issues, develop a consensus list 
of priorities for data analysis, and develop a strategy to partition the 
study area into the primary strata that control water quality in the study 
area.  Separate morning and afternoon work sessions are the format we've 
chosen to get at this information, rather than one large open discussion 
(see the agenda below).
  The meeting will begin at 9:30am and conclude a little earlier this time, 
about 2:15pm.  Lunch will be a nominal charge of $4, again with a selection 
of hoagies, condiments, and drinks.  Enclosed are a map and two recently 
published Fact Sheets that will provide some refresher background information.
  Team update--the NAWQA team is growing!  We now have a staff of six people.

Rob Reiser (surface-water hydrology), Paul Stackelberg (ground-water quality), 
Art Baehr (ground-water quality), and myself.
