Summary of June 2002 Monthly Hydrologic ConditionsCompiled in cooperation with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection The following pages are adapted for online release from a summary of hydrologic condions for the previous month. June 2002
Precipitation was above normal at all three index stations. Newark reported 5.80 inches, which is 170 percent of normal. Atlantic City reported 4.98 inches, which is 187 percent of normal. Trenton reported 5.10 inches, which is 136 percent of normal. Combined storage in the thirteen major water supply reservoirs as of June 30 was 70.1 billion gallons, which is 87.2 percent of capacity. The storage was 4.52 billion gallons more than one month ago and 7.32 billion gallons less than one year ago. The thirteen major water supply reservoirs are as follows: Lake Tappan, Woodcliff Lake, Oradell Reservoir, DeForest Lake, Splitrock Reservoir, Boonton Reservoir, Canistear Reservoir, Oak Ridge Reservoir, Clinton Reservoir, Charlottesburg Reservoir, Echo Lake, Wanaque Reservoir and Spruce Run Reservoir. Streamflow was below normal at the High Bridge and Folsom index stations and above normal at the Trenton index station. The monthly-mean discharge at South Branch Raritan River near High Bridge was 94.2 ft3/s, 83.4 percent of normal. The monthly-mean discharge of the Great Egg Harbor River at Folsom was 59.3 ft3/s, 79.2 percent of normal. The observed monthly mean discharge of the Delaware River at Trenton was 13,900 ft3/s, 141 percent of normal. The observed daily mean discharge of the Delaware River at Trenton on June 30 was 8,090 ft3/s. Groundwater levels, as measured in water-table observation wells, were below normal at all three index wells. This is the record low for the month of June at the Vocational School 2 well.
